Yesterday evening, I was wandering in the park. After taking a walk, I sat on a bench. Suddenly, an old man came and sat beside me.
He said, “Do you know that everything has a purpose?”
I replied, “Yes, that’s a nice philosophical and theological thought.”
He then asked, “Do you know the purpose of a mouse?”
I was astonished. “What could possibly be the purpose of a mouse in this world?” I asked.
“The purpose of a mouse is to create job opportunities,” he replied.
I was speechless. “How can a mouse create jobs?”
Then he explained, “Think about how many jobs in our economy exist because of mice. There are people who work in factories that manufacture mouse traps, produce mouse-control poisons, and provide pest-control services.”
Ecology has taught us that everything under the sun has a purpose. If there is a purpose for the wind, the water, the plants, the insects, and even the mice, then you can be sure that there is also a purpose for human beings.
